Q: What is Digital Infrastructure Ireland?

A: Digital Infrastructure Ireland is a global initiative dedicated to driving the growth and success of the digital infrastructure ecosystem both in and from Ireland.
As a partner-driven organisation, our community brings together companies with world-class expertise at every stage of the digital infrastructure lifecycle. From design and construction to operation and maintenance, our partners embody a spirit of “co-opetition” and collaboration that strengthens Ireland’s standing as a global leader in digital infrastructure.
Digital Infrastructure Ireland serves as a collective voice for the digital infrastructure ecosystem to ensure it remains a trusted partner for designing, building, and supplying digital infrastructure across Europe and beyond.

Q: What is Digital Infrastructure Ireland's history?

A: We were originally founded as Host in Ireland in 2014 by Garry Connolly and a group of key stakeholders in the Irish hosting community - Tanya Duncan, Bernard Geoghegan, Eddie Kilbane, Maurice Mortell and Garry Watson - who accepted Garry’s invitation for an informal chat about hosting digital assets in Ireland. Our original mission was to position Ireland as a global centre of excellence for hosting data-related products and services. Over the years, as the digital infrastructure industry evolved, so too has our purpose. We expanded our focus to include exporting Irish expertise and services to meet the demands of a rapidly growing global market. Today, we find ourselves at another pivotal moment in this journey, ready to embrace a broader vision and a more ambitious role as we become Digital Infrastructure Ireland.

Q: How does Digital Infrastructure Ireland represent the industry?

Digital Infrastructure Ireland will serve as a collective voice for the digital infrastructure ecosystem, representing the diverse sectors, sub-sectors, and communities that drive the industry. Our vision is ambitious but essential.
We want Ireland to continue to be recognised as the trusted partner for designing, building, and supplying digital infrastructure across Europe and beyond. At the same time, we need to advocate more strongly for our industry at home.
Despite Ireland having vast amounts of renewable energy along the coastline, the country is facing an urgent power crisis that could see future waves of cloud and AI investment bypassing us. The Irish government cannot afford to sit on the sidelines as these waves of investment gather momentum elsewhere.
The Irish digital infrastructure ecosystem contributes approximately €228 billion to the Irish economy, with ICT services now representing nearly 60% of Ireland’s service exports. The industry plays a critical role in Ireland’s economy and we must ensure its continued growth and success.
